How Comparable RideAuction Sales work

What is this?

For the unit you are looking at, “Comparable RideAuction sales” shows what units of the same type, make and model — within two model years — actually sold for on RideAuction. It is historical context, not a valuation.

How does it work?

  • What makes a unit comparable: the same unit type (an ATV is never compared with a motorcycle or a side-by-side), the same make and the same model, and a model year within two years either side. Make and model must match exactly — only capital letters and extra spaces are ignored. There is no guessing between different models, even of the same type.
  • The unit itself never counts: a unit on sale has no result yet, and a past result is always left out of its own comparison.
  • Only real completed RideAuction sales count: sold at auction, by Buy Now, or by an accepted post-auction offer (each sale shows its type). A sale that was cancelled, a test auction, an asking price, a Ride marketplace listing price, a reserve or a Max Bid is never used.
  • Reserve not met and No bids are not sales, so they never enter the prices. Their highest bid is only what bidding reached — the seller did not accept it.
  • Low and high are the lowest and highest comparable sale prices. The median is the middle sale when they are put in order (with an even number of sales, halfway between the two middle ones) — one unusual sale moves it less than it moves the average. The average adds every sale and divides by their number.
  • Sample size matters: on a unit page with no eligible comparable sale, the comparable-sales section is hidden. With one sale you see that single sale, not a range (“Very limited RideAuction sales history”). With 2 to 4 sales the figures are labelled “Limited RideAuction sales history”. From 5 sales the card shows the full summary. The dates show which years the sales come from.
  • Why similar units sell differently: condition, hours or kilometres, equipment and modifications, the seller’s disclosures, location, season and timing all change prices. The list shows each sale’s usage, running condition and province where they were recorded — but they do not adjust the figures.
  • Not an appraisal: these are RideAuction’s own recorded results only — not a valuation, an appraisal, a guaranteed value or a Canadian market price. Use them as one input alongside the unit’s photos, disclosures and condition.
  • Privacy: comparable sales never show who bought, who bid, the seller’s name, a reserve, a Max Bid, an address, documents or notes — the same rules as Sold results.

What do I need to do?

  • Sign in with your dealer account and open a unit in an auction (or a past result) to see its “Comparable RideAuction sales” card.
  • Choose “View comparable sales” to open Sold results with the same filters, then open any sale to see its photos, details and disclosures.
  • Change or remove a filter (for example widen the years) to explore further; “Clear comparison” returns to all results.

What happens next?

Compare the sales with the unit in front of you — condition, usage and disclosures first — before deciding what to bid.
