Live activity in the auction room
What is this?
While bidding is live, the Live activity sidebar beside the units shows every bid, time extension, reserve met and result as it happens, what each one means for you, which lots close next — and lets you bid without leaving the auction.
How does it work?
- Color supports the words and icons: green means your dealership is winning, red means you were outbid, and blue identifies activity on a unit you sell. The same tints appear on live cards, the activity feed and phone panels in both themes. A neutral bid count shows activity, not whether you are winning. Sale Lights describe condition separately.
- The sidebar appears on its own when bidding opens (desktop: beside the units; phone: the “Live activity” bar at the bottom opens it). It shows LIVE, the lot that closes next with its clock, how many lots are open and closing soon, a Closing soon list, then the feed, newest first.
- Compact activity rows show the lot, unit photo, verified bidding company name and 30px logo or initials, accepted amount and relative time. Company identities are visible only to authenticated eligible verified wholesale dealers under the mandatory current Terms. Identity unavailable means the original private commitment or reliable bid-time evidence does not permit disclosure; accepting newer Terms does not expose an older anonymous maximum. Staff identities, contacts and private maximums remain confidential. Select an event (or a Closing soon row) to open the lot’s quick view: the same current bid, next minimum bid, countdown and Place Bid as the lot page. Max Bid and Jump The Bid are visible below Your amount (CAD); a leading dealer sees Raise Max Bid. The same agreement, submission and safety rules apply. The small target icon shows the lot in the list instead.
- Small badges distinguish New bid, Winning, Outbid and Your lot. Only the newest bid update on each lot shows your current standing; older entries are historical updates, not repeated claims that you are winning. Use All activity, My activity or Watched lots to filter.
- All activity counts recorded auction updates across the full visible history, not just the latest 40 entries shown. My activity includes updates on lots you bid on or sell. Counts increase with confirmed bids, time extensions and results, including updates grouped into one live frame. Watched lots counts different lots you watch in this auction. Load earlier activity displays older entries without increasing these totals again. Refresh and reconnect recover the full counts from RideAuction. The phone activity bar and collapsed desktop sidebar also show the full All activity total. Desktop and phone panels follow the same rules.
- Large auctions share one live connection per page. Card changes are grouped into the next browser paint; an open bidding panel still receives each state immediately. The database decides timing and bid order. If your connection slows down, the stream catches up to current states; after a disconnect it starts from a fresh snapshot. A displayed countdown reaching zero does not decide a sale: wait for the recorded result.
- Your activity is kept by RideAuction, not by your browser: refresh, switch to the Map, open another auction, sign out and back in, or come back an hour later and the same history is there, with “Load earlier activity” for more. New events arrive live; if the connection drops the feed stays and catches up when it reconnects.
- Hide the sidebar with the arrow to browse full width; RideAuction remembers that and your filter on this device. Public visitors never receive company identities. Eligible authenticated dealers see verified company identities only when the original bid authorization permits disclosure. Staff names, contacts, private Max Bids and reserve amounts are never shown. It does not play sounds; Auction sounds are a separate, opt-in setting.
What do I need to do?
- Short consecutive bid bursts on one lot collapse into the latest update. Expand Show earlier bid updates to see every retained amount, company and time; grouping does not change the ledger or activity totals. If you scroll into older activity, the visible rows stay anchored while the update count continues; new leading rows wait for Jump to latest. Older pages you explicitly load still append. Select Jump to latest when you want to return to the top. Load earlier activity retrieves older recorded entries.
- If an event says you have been outbid, select it and bid again or raise your Max Bid before the lot closes.
- Watch a lot (the star on its card) to follow it in Watched lots and get its alerts.
What happens next?
When a lot closes, its result (Sold, Reserve not met, No bids, or “You won”) appears in the feed and on the lot card; after the auction the sidebar keeps the recorded activity as a summary.
